Baltimore, MD: The Christopher Newport University women's volleyball team won the opening match of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Baltimore Regional, 3-1 (31-33, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23) over Ramapo College today at Johns Hopkins University. The Captains improve to 22-12 and snap the Roadrunners 13-match win streak. Ramapo wraps up the historic 2023 season at 25-2 overall, the best overall record in program history.

In set one the two teams played point for point that eventually went the Roadrunners way with a 33-31 first set victory.
Maliyah LaBrie led the Roadrunners with seven kills while
Desiree Cruz and
Kalme Moncavo each posted three.
Cleopatra Diakou dished out 15 assists while
Krystal Santiago Oquendo recorded four digs. Ramapo also posted two total blocks in the set. For the Captains, Samantha Dorn led the way with five kills while Sammy Carroll posted 12 assists. The team recorded four total blocks in the set.

The Captains controlled set two  as they went on a 6-1 early in the match to take an 11-5 lead before, they got three straight kills to take an 18-12 lead later in the match. Ramapo would cut the lead to just two, 20-22, on a block from Cruz and
Penelope Rivera. The Captains were able to pull away with the final three points to take the set, 25-20. In set three, CNU once again were able to capitalize and take a two set advantage with a 25-14 win. Â In set four, the Roadrunners came out strong and opened up an 8-1 lead. The Captains would push for the next few points before Ramapo took an 11-5 lead with a kill from Moncavo. A kill from Cruz pushed the lead to 18-12 before CNU made a 13-5 run to close out the fourth set and take the match 25-23.

For CNU, Alyssa Dozier collected 13 kills and six total blocks while Dorn added 12 kills. Macy Burk posted eight kills and four total blocks while Carroll dished out 47 assists while adding four kills, six aces and seven digs. Noelle Starr led the way on defense with 13 digs. The team hit .220 in the match with 53 kills on 132 attempts and 24 errors.

For the Roadrunners, LaBrie posted 12 kills to lead the way while she added six digs and one ace. Cruz posted eight kills and hit .316 in the match. Rivera added seven kills, three total blocks and five digs while Moncavo also put down seven kills and tallied eight digs.
Cleopatra Diakou dished out 29 assists while she teamed up with
Krystal Santiago Oquendo as they each posted 11 digs on defense. The team recorded 43 kills in the match on 122 attempts with 24 errors to hit .156 overall.
