Westfield, MA: The Ramapo College men's basketball team opened the 2023-2024 season with an 87-74 win over Western Connecticut State University in their first game at the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
The Roadrunners connected on 13 three-pointers in the game to shoot 56% from beyond the three-point line.
Anthony Corbo led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds with four assists. He shot 5-7 from the field and was perfect from the three-point line (3-3) and the free throw line (6-6).
Justin Bladen connected on four three-pointers in the game and finished 6-13 from the field adding 17 points for the Roadrunners.
Jordan Myers put in 12 points while
Shane Rooney tallied eight points and six rebounds with one block and two steals.
Elijah Barlow tacked on 11 points as he finished 3-5 from beyond the three-point line while
Tyrell Murchison added ten points and five assists. The team shot 55% (30-54) from the floor and 70% (14-20) from the free throw line in the game while they forced 16 WestConn turnovers in the game which led to 19 points for Ramapo.
For WestConn Cameron Gallon led the team with 18 points while Alfonso Stokes and Jaheim Young each tallied 17 points. Jaysean Morgan put up 12 points and a team high four steals and four assists. Young led the way finishing with six rebounds while he finished 10-11 from the free throw line. The WestConn defense forced 19 Ramapo turnovers which led to 25 points. The team shot 41% from the field (25-60), 37% (9-24) from the three-point line and 68% (15-22) from the free throw line.
Ramapo will take on Westfield State University tomorrow at 12:00pm in their final game of the Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic.
