Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers-Newark University women's soccer team slipped past Ramapo College tonight, 3-2. The Scarlet Raiders move to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the conference.
Leila Ettayebi got Rutgers-Newark on the board in the 10th minute (9:53) of play with her fourth goal of the season, 1-0. Tamia Howell earned the assist. Ramapo would tie the game at one when
Carla Goodwin scored her team leading sixth goal of the season in the 18th minute (17:35), 1-1. In the second half,
Amber Maher took a pass from
Ashley Agrillo and hit the back of the net to take a 2-1 lead with 53:08 on the clock. Tamia Howell collected the ball inside the box and pushed the ball past a diving Ramapo defender after multiple Scarlet Raider shots on the play as Rutgers-Newark tied the game at two. The eventual game-winner came in the 75th minute (74:46) when the Scarlet Raiders were awarded a penalty kick. Camila Howard would convert to put the team up, 3-2.
Rutgers-Newark recorded 17 shots on goal in the game while the Roadrunners tallied five. Ramapo held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks in the game.
Makenna Tahbaz posted a season high 13 saves in goal for Ramapo. Katie McLaughlin posted three saves in goal for Rutgers-Newark.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, October 21st when they host Stockton University in a NJAC matchup at 6:00pm. The team will honor their senior class in a pre-match ceremony.
