Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team clinched a spot in the 2022 NJAC Baseball Tournament with a split this afternoon over the College of New Jersey. The Roadrunners earned the #6 seed and stands at 15-22-1 overall and 6-12 in the NJAC while the Lions, who earned the #4 seed in the tournament, stand at 19-16 overall and 9-9 in the conference.
Game One
Neither team scored until the fourth inning when TCNJ put up three runs. Three straight RBI singles from the Lions gave them the 3-0 lead before Ramapo added one run in the eighth.
Matt Lalomia punched a single through the right side of the infield which plated
Christian Alonso for the team's only run of the game. TCNJ would hold Ramapo in the ninth to secure the 3-1 win.
Nick Danbrowney (3-6) took the loss on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out five, walked three and scattered five hits in seven innings of work.
DJ McGuinness worked the final two innings with one strikeout while he let up just two hits and no runs.
Game Two
Ramapo scored single runs in the first and second inning before TCNJ came back with two runs in the top of the third inning.
Tyler Guadagno scored on a single from Lalomia in the first before
Matt Carovillano touched home plate on an infield ground out for a 2- lead. TCNJ put up two in the third on two RBI singles while Ramapo came back with four runs in the third inning. Lalomia plated
Brian Baranok and
Justin Garthaffner with a two-RBI double before Carovillano and
Dominick Ciani each recorded RBI singles, 6-2. The Lions added two runs in the fifth to come within two, 4-6, before Ramapo broke the game open with five runs in the sixth inning for an 11-4 lead. Baranok drove home two with a two-RBI double before Garthaffner, Lalomia and Donaghue each plated runs with an RBI single. Guadagno recorded an RBI triple which scored Alonso in the seventh before Baranok hit his 5th home run of the season, a two-run home run for a 14-4 lead. TCNJ scored one in the eighth and three in the ninth before Ramapo closed out the game with a line out to shortstop as Ramapo secured the 14-8 win.
Jared Haag (1-0) earned the win in relief as he struck out three in 4.1 innings of work.
Dan Russo earned the no decision with the start on the mound in game two, he struck out three and let up just two hits in 3.2 innings.
Ramapo will return to action on Tuesday, May 3rd when they travel to #1 Rowan University in the first round of the NJAC Baseball Tournament. The game is set for 3:30pm.
