Mahwah, NJ: The William Paterson University baseball team defeated Ramapo College 19-10 today in NJAC action. The Pioneers improve to 25-12 overall and 11-5 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 14-21-1 overall and 5-11 in the conference.
The Pioneers scored six runs in the top of the second for an early lead. WPU added one in the third before Ramapo got on the board with two in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs in the third inning,
Dominick Ciani and
Brian Baranok each singled before
Justin Garthaffner laced a two-RBI double to put Ramapo on the board, 2-7. WPU added two in the fourth, three in the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh to extend their lead, 19-2.
Ramapo came back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sean Donoaghue laced an RBI double which plated
Jesse Swartout before
Jason Cuba singled to put two runners on for Ramapo.
Joseph Marte then drove a single into left-center field to plate Donaghue and Cuba, 5-19. In the ninth, the Roadrunners added five more runs all with two outs. Ramapo loaded the bases before Marte drove home Donaghue with a hard hit single.
TJ Roman walked to force home Cuba before Supp laced a single to left field which allowed
Joe Wisniewski to touch home plate. Marte and Roman each scored on a pass ball and wild pitch respectively, 10-19.
Baranok, Donaghue and Marte each collected two hits each to lead Ramapo at the plate.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning when they host NJAC rival TCNJ in the final regular season home games of the year. The double header is slated to begin at 11:30am. Ramapo will honor their senior class in a ceremony between the two games.
