BASEBALL POUNDS OUT 20 HITS IN 23-2 VICTORY OVER BARUCH

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Baruch College 23-2 today at Jeff Maund Field in non-conference action. The Roadrunners move to 14-19-1 overall while the Bearcats now stand at 11-9 overall.
 
The Roadrunners belted out 20 hits in the game including six doubles, one triple and one home run. The team scored seven runs in the first and second innings to take a quick 14-0 lead. They added one in the third, two in the  fourth and six in the sixth to take a 23-0 lead. The Bearcats added one run in the top of the seventh and ninth innings to get on the board.
 
Ramapo batted around in the first inning as they scored seven runs on five hits. Brian Baranok drove in two RBI with a double before Joe Wisniewski hit a double with the bases loaded which plated all three baserunners for a 5-0 lead. Marc Porpora drove home Wisniewski with an RBI single before Cuba brought home Porpora with a triple to right-center for the 7-0 score.
 
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Wisniewski plated one run with a walk before Porpora recorded an RBI sac fly to right field to plate Justin Garthaffner, 9-0. Joseph Marte then laced a double down the left field line which scored Sean Donaghue, 10-0. Wisniewski scored on an infield error before Marte scored on an RBI single from TJ Roman. The ball hit into center field was misplayed by the defense allowing Cuba to come around to score. The final run of the inning came home on a Baranok RBI single as Roman scored, 14-0. Wisniewski belted his third home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Ramapo added two runs as Rob Klawans and Porpora drove in runs with a single and a bases loaded walk respectively, 17-0. Ramapo added six runs in the sixth highlighted by Porpora's two RBI double down the left field line before they added four more runs for a 23-0 lead.
 
Baruch scored one run as the Roadrunners turned a double play in the seventh before they added their second run in the top of the ninth on Pedro's Tejada's double to right field.
 
Wisniewski finished 3-3 with five RBI and three runs scored while Roman finished 3-7 with four runs scored and one RBI. Baranok finished 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored while Porpora finished with five RBI on a 3-4 day with two runs scored.
 
DJ McGuiness (2-1) struck out two in two innings of work while Gerard Chiricolo and Billy Scanlon each worked the next two innings. Robert Sayle worked the seventh and eighth innings with one strikeout while Garrett Van Alstyne wrapped up the game pitching the ninth.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they travel to William Paterson University for the first game in the NJAC home-and-home series. The game is slated to begin at 3:30pm.
