NJCU TOPS RAMAPO IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University baseball team swept a pair of games today over Ramapo College, 7-6 and 12-7. The Gothic Knights improve to 11-22 overall, 3-11 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 13-19 overall, 5-9 in the conference.
 
Game One
Ramapo knocked in the first run of the game when Justin Garthaffner recorded an RBI double to center field as Dominick Ciani scored for the 1-0 lead. NJCU would put up four runs in the bottom of the first before both teams scored one run in the third inning. In the top of the third, Brian Baranok plated Christian Alonso with an RBI single, 2-4, before NJCU added one run in the bottom of the third for a 5-2 lead. The Gothic Knights put up singles runs in the fifth and sixth inning for a 7-2 lead. Ramapo would make a comeback late in the game as they scored two runs in each of the seventh and eighth inning to come within one, 6-7. In the seventh, Matt Carovillano led off with a single before being lifted for pinch runner Jason Cuba. Following an infield error and a balk to move the runners to second and third, Tyler Guadagno laced a single down the left field line as both runners scored. The bases were loaded in the eighth with no outs before Ju. Garthaffner scored on a fielder's choice. Joe Wisniewski then plated Matt Lalomia with a sac fly to come within one, 6-7. The Gothic Knights would hold the Roadrunners in the ninth inning as Ramapo put the tying run on base.
 
Nick Danbrowney (3-4) took the loss on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out six and scattered eight hits and let up seven runs in six complete innings of work. DJ McGuinness struck out three and did not let up a hit in the final two innings in relief.
 
Game Two
Ramapo jumped out to a 4-0 lead before NJCU tacked on seven runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-4 lead. Ju. Garthaffner belted his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence. In the second inning, Harold Calero laced a triple to left field which plated Cuba before Guadagno drove home Claero with an RBI groundout for the 4-0 lead. NJCU put up seven runs on five hits in the second inning to take the lead. The Gothic Knights added one run in the third while the Roadrunners added two runs in the fifth. Baranok doubled to lead off the fifth before Lalomia singled to put runners on first and third. Lalomia then stole second before Sean Donaghue drove them home with an RBI single, 6-8. Ramapo would add their final run of the game in the sixth when Baranock drove home Alonso with an RBI single, 7-8. NJCU plated three runs in the seventh for a 11-7 lead before they added one in the eighth, 12-7.
 
Troy Karaty took the looks on the mound for the Roadrunners as he scattered four hits and let up seven runs in 1.1 innings of work. John Higgins worked the next 5.1 innings in relief where he struck out three and scattered six hits while he surrendered four runs. Jared Haag pitched the final 1.1 innings for Ramapo where he struck out one and let up two hits and one unearned run.
 
Baranok led the team at the plate finishing 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Calero finished 2-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 26th when they host Baruch College in non-conference action at 3:30pm.
