Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team completed the home-and-home NJAC sweep over Rutgers-Newark University in a 7-4 victory this afternoon. The Roadrunners improve to 13-17-1 overall and 5-7 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders drop to 12-16 overall, 2-10 in the conference.
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the first inning when Dominic Ciani laced an RBI single to right field which plated
Christian Alonso. Ciani raced home later in the inning on
Matt Lalomia's stolen base before Alonso picked up two RBI in the second inning with a hard hit single to right field.
Matt Carovillano and
Harold Calero scored on the play to push the score to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, Rutgers-Newark got on the board with an RBI single from Suleski before the Roadrunners added two more runs in the fifth.
Brian Baranok reached base on a hit by pitch before
Justin Garthaffner doubleD to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Matt Lalomia drove in the two RBI with a single to center field as Ramapo led, 6-1. In the top of the eighth, Alonso singled with one out and advanced to third on a single from Ciani before he later scored on Baranok's RBI fielder's choice, 7-1. The Scarlet Raiders added three runs in the bottom of the ninth before the Roadrunners got out of a jam with a fly out to center to end the game.
Dan Russo started on the mound for the Roadrunners and worked eight complete innings. He let up just one run, struck out six and scattered three hits. Alonso led the Roadrunners at the plate finishing 4-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Ciani and Garthaffner also posted two hits each while Lalomia drove in two RBI.
Ramapo returns to action on the road tomorrow for a NJAC double header at New Jersey City University. First pitch of game one is slated to begin at 11:30am.
