ROADRUNNER BASEBALL SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH'S LONG ISLAND ON OPENING DAY

Patchogue, NY:  The Ramapo College baseball team opened the 2022 season with a pair of seven inning wins over host St. Joseph's College Long Island. The Roadrunners won game one, 22-4 and game two, 14-3. Ramapo pounded out 29 hits in the doubleheader including ten doubles and two home runs. The pitching staff struck out 19 in 14 innings of action while they held the Golden Eagle offense to just 11 hits.
 
Game One
The Roadrunners scored six runs in the top of the first inning as they cruised to a 22-4 victory. Christian Alonso led off the game with a walk before Tyler Guadagno knocked him in with a double. Alonso moved to third on a wild pitch before Brian Baranok laced a double down the left field line which allowed Alonso to score, 2-0. Ramapo scored the next four runs with two outs as Joe Wisniewski smacked a bases loaded double allowing Baranok, Matt Carovillano and Matt Lalomia to score. Aidan Supp then drove home Wisniewski with a hard hit single through the infield for a 6-0 score. The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the first before Ramapo added one run in the second when Lalomia drew a bases loaded walk which plated Guadagno, 7-2. In the bottom half of the second SJCLI added one more run before Ramapo put six on the board in the top of the third for a 13-4 score. The inning was highlighted by Baranok's two-RBI double and Lalomia's grand slam. The Golden Eagles added one run in the bottom of the third and Ramapo tacked on five more runs in the fourth and four in the sixth.
 
Baranok finished 4-4 with four RBI and three runs scored while Guadagno finished 3-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. Lalomia finished 2-3 at the plate with three runs scored and five RBI. James Garthaffner earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners as he struck out six and scattered six hits over four innings of work. Troy Karaty earned the save in three innings of work. He struck out three and let up just one hit.
 
Game Two
Ramapo moved to 2-0 overall with a 15-hit attack in game two. The Roadrunners scored one run in the first and second innings before adding five runs in the third and seven in the fifth. Nick Danbrowney started on the mound for Ramapo in his collegiate debut, he struck out seven, walked just one and scattered one hit over five shutout innings.
 
In the top of the first, Ramapo scratched a run across on an infield throwing error as Baranok came around to score for the 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, TJ Roman singled then stole second and third before Guadagno drove him home with an RBI groundout, 2-0. The Roadrunners added five runs in the third inning on five hits. With one out and the bases loaded, Roman laced a single to right field allowing Justin Garthaffner to score before Alonso then ripped a double to left field plating two more runs. Following the second out of the inning, Baranok singled up the middle allowing two runs to score for the 7-0 lead.
 
The Roadrunners made it 14-0 in the fifth as they added seven runs. Baranok recorded an RBI single before Ju. Garthaffner laced a single to left-center field driving home two RBI. Harold Calero ripped a double to center field, plating two more runs for the Roadrunners before Sean Donaghue crossed home plate on an RBI groundout from Roman. Later in the inning Calero came around to score on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the sixth inning the Golden Eagles put up three runs to get on the board before Ramapo held them scoreless in the seventh for the 14-3 win.
 
Baranok remained perfect at the plate on the day as he finished game two, 2-2 with three RBI and two runs scored. Justin Garthaffner went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Alonso and Roman each finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
 
Dan Russo worked the sixth inning on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out one, scattered three hits and surrendered three runs. Will Paoli struck out two, walked none and did not let up a hit in the final inning of work.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, March 12th when they take on Ripon College at the RussMatt Tournament in Auburndale, FL at 3pm.
