Mahwah, NJ: The St. Joseph's College - LI women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the 2022 season in a 16-9 victory over Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center. The Golden Eagles move to 1-3 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-6 on the year.
Ramapo led 3-1 heading into the second quarter as
Kaylie Gresek,
Kelly Griffin and
Colleen Mason all recorded goals in the first quarter. St. Joseph's took the lead in the second quarter as they scored eight goals to Ramapo's two for a 9-5 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Mason scored Ramapo's single goal while the Golden Eagles extended their lead with two more, 11-6. In the final quarter of play, SJLI posted five goals while Ramapo added three as the Golden Eagles were able to come away with the 16-9 road win.
Mason and Griffin led the way for the Roadrunners with three goals each while Eseme Espinosa tallied two and Gresek posted one.
Alyssa Curto posted six saves in the game for Ramapo.
Melissa Newman led the way for both teams as she poured in seven goals on the day while Emily O'Mara and Jamie Trowbridge each tallied three apiece. SJCLI held a 32-29 advantage in shots in the game. Chloe Anthony started the game and made four saves in the first 30 minutes of action while Jillian Hummel posted seven saves in the final 30 minutes of play.
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to Stockton University on Saturday, April 9th for the first NJAC game of the season. The game is set for 2pm.
