Swarthmore, PA: The Ramapo College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader today on the road at Swarthmore College. The Garnet took game one, 8-7 while the Roadrunners won game two, 8-7. Ramapo improves to 7-8 overall while Swarthmore moves to 7-12 on the year.
Game One
Swarthmore held on for an 8-7 win in game one despite Ramapo scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to come within one. Swarthmore scored one run in the first before Ramapo came back with two runs in the top of the second.
Sean Donaghue launched his first of two home runs in the game over the left field wall which allowed
Matt Lalomia to score for the lead. Swarthmore then scored five runs in the next three innings taking a 6-2 lead.
Christian Alonso and
Tyler Guadagno each walked to lead off the 7
th before
Dominick Ciani laced a double to center field, plating Alonso. Guadagno later scored on a wild pitch before
Justin Garthaffner singled home Ciani to come within one, 5-6. Swarthmore added two runs in the eighth for an 8-5 lead before Ramapo's Lalomia and Donaghue hit solo home runs in the top of the ninth to bring the Roadrunners within one with one out. Swarthmore then induced a ground out and strikeout to end the game.
Nick Danbrowney (1-2) took the loss for Ramapo. He struck out three, walked one while he gave up ten hits in four innings of work. Donaghue and Ciani each collected two hits in the game while Donaghue led the way with three RBI.
Game Two
Swarthmore scored one run in the bottom of the first before Ramapo took a 4-1 lead in the second inning. Donaghue drove home Lalomia with a single to center field to tie the game 1-1 before he later scored on an infield error for the 2-1 lead. Ciani then drove home two RBI with a single to right-center field, 4-1.
Matt Carovillano belted a solo homerun in the third inning to extend the Roadrunner lead before
Brian Baranok laced an RBI double to center field which allowed Guadagno to score, 6-1.
Swarthmore's Matt Silvestre hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to come within one, 5-6 before he tied the game in the seventh inning with an RBI single, 6-6. In the ninth, Donaghue and Lalomia scored on a pair of errors for an 8-6 lead for the Roadrunners. Swarthmore scored their seventh run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning and had the tying run at third base before Ramapo got out of the jam with an infield popup.
Will Paoli (1-1) earned the win in relief as he worked three innings with one strikeout, two walks while he let up just two hits and one run scored. Ciani earned the save working the ninth inning.
Troy Karaty started the game for Ramapo and worked the first five innings. He struck out three, walked one and scattered eight hits. Ramapo recorded ten hits in the game while Ciani, Guadagno and Donaghue each collected two hits in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 29
th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a 3:30pm non-conference game.
