Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated the Panthers from the College at Old Westbury, 10-4 today at Jeff Maund Field on the Mahwah campus as
Sean Donaghue,
Brian Baranok and
Justin Garthaffner each collected home runs in the team's home opener. The Roadrunners improve to 5-7 overall while the Panthers fall to 4-8.
It didn't take long for the Roadrunners to get on the board as they scored in the bottom of the 1
st with a run from
Tyler Guadagno. He would come home on a single from
Dominick Ciani after doubling to lead off the inning. Ramapo would tack on an additional run in the 2
nd from Donaghue before collecting five runs in the bottom of the 3
rd to take a 7-0 lead.
Matt Carovillano hit a sac fly to right field bringing home
Matt Lalomia and
TJ Roman singled to center to drive in Donaghue. Ciani ripped a double to left field scoring Roman and
Harold Calero, before Guadagno scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The Roadrunners would find themselves up 10-0 after a Garthaffner homer in the 4
th and a Baranok and Donaghue homer in the 6
th, with
Dan Russo pitching a perfect game through six innings. But the Panthers finally got on the board in the 7
th with three runs from Jamal Ritter, Paul DePaulis and Jacob Ford. The Panthers would add an additional run in the 8
th but the Roadrunners proved to be too much as they closed out the remainder of the game to earn the 10-4 victory.
Russo gets the win (2-0) as he pitched seven innings with just three hits and three runs. He struck out seven and walked none in the non-conference victory.
Robert Sayle would pitch the remainder of the game striking out one and walking two, letting up two hits in two innings of work.
Patrick Quinn gets the loss (1-3) for the Panthers in just two innings of work. He let up five hits and two runs with four strike outs and one walk.
Donaghue went 2-3, including a homerun, with three runs and one RBI, while Ciani hit 2-3 with three RBI. Baranok and Garthaffner each hit 1-4 with one run and one RBI and Calero went 2-3 with one run. Roman collected three hits on four at bats with one run and one RBI.
Ford led the Panthers hitting 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Ritter, DePaulis, and Wilmer Cuevas each scored a run in the loss.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow, March 23
rd when they host Western Connecticut at 3:30pm at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah.
