Ewing, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team posted a NJAC road win over the College of New Jersey tonight, 77-66. The Roadrunners move to 5-15 overall, 4-11 in the NJAC while the Lions move to 8-12 overall and 5-11 in the conference.
The Roadrunners opened up with back-to-back three-pointers by
Anthony Corbo and
Mansfield Warren for a quick 6-0 lead. Rampao held an 11-7 lead following a pair of free throws from Corbo before an 8-4 run from TCNJ tied the game at 15. The run was capped off with a three-pointer from Trevor Covey with just under ten minutes to play in the half.
Justin Bladen started a mini 5-2 run for the Roadrunners as
Peter Gamba capped it off with a jumper for a 22-17 lead. A layup and three-pointer from TCNJ tied the game for the third time before back-to-back three-pointers from Mansfield put Ramapo ahead 28-22 with 4:16 on the clock. Ramapo would hold a lead the rest of the first half as they went into the locker room up, 34-30.
The Roadrunners opened the second half outscoring TCNJ, 15-7. Over the first 6:30 minutes of action, Ramapo was 7-10 from the field as they were led by
Mark Howell with seven points. The run was capped off by a layup from
Shane Rooney with 13:30 on the clock. TCNJ would sink back-to-back three-pointers from Jason Larranaga and Naysean Burch to come within six, 43-49. A pair of free throws from Corbo started a 10-2 run for the Roadrunners that extended their lead, 59-45, with just over eight minutes left to play in the game. Corbo scored seven points in the run including a three-pointer. Following a three-pointer from Burch, Ramapo's
Marquise Kindel and Rooney connected on back-to-back baskets giving the Roadrunners their biggest lead, 63-48, with under seven left to play. TCNJ would cut the lead back to seven with 1:25 on the clock before Rooney scored a pair of free throws that started a 9-5 run, where the Roadrunners wrapped up the game scoring their final nine points on the free throw line and posted a 77-66 victory.
Ramapo was led by Warren who posted a career high 21 points as he finished 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from the three-point line while he converted 8-9 from the free throw line. Warren also posted three steals and three assists in the game. Rooney posted 15 points, four rebounds and one assist while Corbo tallied 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Howell recorded 11 points, two assists and one blocked shot. The Roadrunners shot 52% (26-50) from the field, 42% (6-14) from the three-point line and 79% (19-24) from the free throw line. Ramapo forced 13 TCNJ turnovers which led to 19 points for the Roadrunners
Jim Clemente led the Lions with 13 points and five rebounds while Danny Bodine posted a double double with 11 points and ten rebounds. He also finished 5-5 from the free throw line and added two blocked shots. Jacob Hopping added 12 points while Burch tallied 11 in the game. TCNJ shot 39% (23-59) from the field, 30% (10-33) from the three-point line and 71% (10-14) from the free throw line in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12th when they travel to Rowan University for a NJAC game at 1pm.
