Las Vegas, NV: The Concordia College (MN) men's basketball team defeated Ramapo College tonight at the D3Hoops.com Classic, 80-71. The Roadrunners move to 5-6 overall while the Cobbers now stand at 5-5 on the year.
Ramapo jumped out to an eight point lead in the first seven minutes of action following a basket from
Jordan Myers before
Justin Bladen sank a three-pointer for the Roadrunners pushing their lead to 14-7 with just over 12 minutes left in the half. Concordia came back to tie the game at 14 with under ten to play before Ramapo took the lead on a jumper from Myers, 18-16. A three-pointer from Concordia gave them a one point lead before Myers scored a basket for Ramapo. Rowan Nelson scored off an and-one play to take a two point lead for Concordia before
Tyrell Murchison converted a free throw and later a layup to give Ramapo a 23-22 lead with under 2:25 on the clock. Dylan Inniger made a layup before
Elijah Barlow sank a three-pointer for the Roadrunners for a two point lead, 26-24 with 1:04 on the clock. Inniger scored a basket to tie the game at 26 before Myers gave Ramapo a two point lead with 26 seconds left, 28-26. Inniger then sank a three-pointer for the Cobbers with just five seconds on the clock to go into the locker room up 29-28.
The Cobbers and Roadrunners traded baskets during the first few minutes of the second half before Concordia stretched the lead to 52-42 with less than 12 on the clock. Concordia held onto the lead despite a Ramapo comeback over the next six minutes while the Cobbers pushed the lead back to ten with 5:56 on the clock before Ramapo shrunk the lead to four, 69-73, with 1:31 left in the game. Matthew Johnson sank a big three-pointer for the Cobbers before Alex Huber sank a jumper to extend their lead back to nine with less than a minute to play. Myers scored the final basket for the Roadrunners on a layup, before the Cobbers scored their final point on the free throw line from Johnson as they took the game 80-71.
Myers led the Roadrunners with a double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while
Peter Gorman added 13 points and
Shane Rooney tallied ten points while both Barlow and Bladen each contributed with eight. Ramapo shot 45% (27-59) from the floor, 41% (7-17) from the three-point line and 50% (10-20) from the free throw line in the game. Ramapo connected on seven three-pointers while the Cobbers recorded eight made three-pointers in the game. The Ramapo defense forced 17 turnovers from Concordia that led to 11 points.
Johnson led Concordia with 26 points including a game-high three made three-pointers. Three other Cobbers scored in double figures as Inniger tallied 18, Nelson scored 13 and Huber posted 11. The team shot 43% (26-60) from the floor, 32% (8-25) from the three-point line and 74% (20-27) from the free throw line in the game. The Cobbers forced 15 Ramapo turnovers that led to 17 points.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow night at the D3Hoops.com Classic as they take on the University of Dubuque at 9pm (EST).
