Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team earned a non-conference victory over Brooklyn College, 83-68. The Roadrunners move to 5-5 overall while the Bulldogs drop to 2-9 overall.
Ramapo used a big second half to propel themselves to their fifth victory of the season.
Peter Gorman led the way with 22 points, including four three-pointers while he added ten assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Shane Rooney posted 20 points along with 11 rebounds and seven assists while he added three steals and one blocked shot.
Jordan Myers contributed with 17 points and nine rebounds and
Elijah Barlow posted 11 points, three assists and three rebounds. The team shot 52% (31-59) from the floor in the game, 42% (8-19) from the three-point line and 81% (13-16) from the free throw line.
The two teams battled in the first eight minutes of action as the score was tied at 12 before
Peter Gamba scored a basket, Gorman added a three-pointer to take a 17-12 lead. The two teams traded baskets before Ramapo once again stretched their lead back to five on a layup from Rooney, 21-16. Brooklyn would cut the lead to one with a made three-pointer before Enoch Hutchison made one for the Roadrunners for a 26-22 lead with less than five minute to play in the first half. In the final three minutes of play the score was tied two more times before back-to-back baskets from Rooney and
Justin Bladen gave Ramapo a four point lead with less than a minute to play. The Bulldogs scored two baskets in the final 37 seconds while Gorman added a three-pointer for Ramapo to go into the locker room up, 36-34.
In the second half, the Bulldogs took the lead and pushed it to five, 52-47, with 14:30 on the clock before Ramapo tied the game at 52. An-and-one play from Myers and two baskets from Rooney sparked a 9-2 run which gave Ramapo a 58-53 lead with just over 12 minutes on the clock. Brooklyn cut the lead to two, before Ramapo once again went on a run to maintain their lead. Rooney hit a jumper to start an 8-0 run capped off with a pair of free throws from Myers for a ten point lead, 68-58. Barlow then hit three straight three-pointers for the Roadrunners, the final coming with 1:37 on the clock to hold a 77-66 lead. Gorman closed out the game with three straight trips to the free throw line converting on all six of the free throws as Ramapo took the game 83-68.
The Bulldogs were led by Elisha Park who tallied 23 points and seven rebounds while David McFadden added 13 points and Kayin Olajide tacked on 11 points and five rebounds. Brooklyn shot 46% (23-49) from the floor in the game, 50% (12-24) from the three-point line and 62% (10-16) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on December 28th when they travel to the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, NV. Ramapo will take on Rhodes College on 12/28 at 9pm EST while they will go up against the University of Dubuque on 12/29 at 9pm EST.
