Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University men's basketball team used a big second half run to defeat Ramapo College in NJAC action this afternoon, 86-67. The Profs improve to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 4-5 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
It was a battle in the first half with both teams taking the lead before Rowan finished the half on a 16-7 run to open a ten point lead, 40-30. Ja'Zere Noel contributed with six points and Marcellus Ross added five in the run. In the final seven minute of the game, Ramapo was led by
Elijah Barlow who tallied five of the team's seven points.
In the second half, Rowan pushed the lead to 50-39 in the first four minutes of action before Ramapo went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to five.
Will Brown sank a pair of free throws and a jumper before
Anthony Corbo scored a basket of his own with 14:32 on the clock. Rowan snapped the run as Stretch Hawkins converted one of two free throws before later sinking a basket for which began a 19-1 run for the Profs as they took a 69-46 lead with 7:25 left to play in the game. Rowan held a double digit lead the remainder of the game while they pushed the lead to 23 late in the half.
Rowan had four Profs score in double figures as Marcellus Ross led the way with 21 points while Noel posted 20 points and eight rebounds and Andrew Seager and Josh Wright each contributed with 13 points. Hawkins added nine points and seven rebounds. The team shot 43% (31-71) from the field in the game, 25% (7-28) from beyond the three-point line and 70% (17-24) from the free throw line. The Prof defense forced 23 Ramapo turnovers which led to 24 points for Rowan.
Shane Rooney led Ramapo with 13 points while he added six rebounds.
Peter Gorman tacked on 11 points and three assists while
Will Brown added nine points. Corbo and
Jordan Myers each pulled down a team high 11 rebounds while Corbo tallied seven points and Myers added six. Barlow also contributed with seven points and one steal. The Roadrunners shot 45% (27-60) from the field in the game, 58% (7-12) from the three-point line and 75% (6-8) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, December 13th when they host Brooklyn College in a non-conference game at the Bradley Center at 7:30pm.
