Selinsgrove, PA: The Susquehanna University men's swim team slipped past Ramapo College today in non-conference action, 130-126. The River Hawks open the dual meet season at 1-0 overall while the Roadrunners stand at 1-3 on the year.
The 200-yard medley relay team placed second overall with a combined time of 1:41.22. The team was made up of
Brendan McDevitt,
Emile Eeckhout,
Benjamin Gomez and
Joe Swede.
Michael Sooy,
Jeffrey Horn and
Meghan Cortez-Fields finished 2-3-4 in the 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 10:38.29, 11:08.29 and 12:16.79 respectively.
Caleb Baron placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.34 while
Samuel De Leon won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.05 seconds. Eeckhout won the 100-yard breaststroke out-touching the wall over the River Hawks in .01 of a second; his winning time was 1:00.22. In the 200-yard butterfly,
Giovanni Alvarez and Baron went 1-2 with times of 2:13.60 and 2:16.38. Gomez placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.73 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (49.77 seconds). De Leon finished in second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.69 while Eeckhout won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.37. Sooy and Horn went 2-3 in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:09.48 and 5:20.89. In the 100-yard butterfly, three Roadrunners earned points for the team; Gomez finished in second place (54.38 seconds), A. Alvarez (57.01 seconds) and G. Alvarez (58.94 seconds). Eeckhout made it three first place finishes when he clocked in at 2:02.81 in the 200-yard IM while De Leon finished third in 2:07.92. The 200-yard freestyle relay, made up of A. Alvarez, G. Alvarez, Baron and
Tyler Moore placed second with a time of 1:34.39.
The Roadrunners return to action on November 18th at 5:30 pm and 19th at 10:30am and 6:30pm when they travel to Kean University for the Cougar Invitational.
