MEN'S BASKETBALL HOLDS OFF RUTGERS-NEWARK, WINS THIRD STRAIGHT

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team extended their win streak to three with a 55-52 win over Rutgers-Newark University in the first NJAC game of the season. The Roadrunners move to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
 
The Roadrunners took a two point lead into the locker room at halftime before the Scarlet Raiders would eventually take the lead in the second half. Rutgers would stretch their lead to six with 14:42 on the board before Ramapo's Justin Bladen sank a three-pointer to come within three, 35-38.  Rutgers would once again push the lead to six before Ramapo hit back-to-back three-pointers from Anthony Corbo and Elijah Barlow to tie the game at 41 with just over ten minutes to play in the game. The two teams traded baskets before a mini 4-0 run gave Rutgers a 47-43 lead. Peter Gorman and Corbo would hit back-to-back three-pointers once again to put Ramapo back on top, 49-47 with 4:48 on the clock. The Scarlet Raiders got a basket from Tony Godwin and a free throw from Anees Raheem for a one point lead before Will Brown scored in the paint off a dish from Corbo, 51-50 with 3:03 on the clock. Shane Rooney scored on a layup off a pass from Brown for a three point lead, 53-50. Following back-to-back timeouts, Kelvin Marshall scored a basket for Rutgers with under a minute to play as Ramapo held a one-point lead, 53-52. The Scarlet Raiders did not convert on a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining before Rooney put down a dunk for the Roadrunners with seven seconds left in the game for the 55-52 score. A last second three-pointer from Rutgers did not hit the mark as the Roadrunners held on for the victory.
 
Rooney led the Roadrunners with 13 points and seven rebounds while Gorman added 11 points, four rebounds. Gorman was tied with Barlow as they led the team with five assists each. Barlow also contributed with eight points including two three-pointers and a team high four steals. Corbo added eight points, three assists, three rebounds and three steals while Brown posted seven points, four rebounds and one assist. The Roadrunners shot 40% (22-54) from the field, 43% (7-16) from beyond the three-point line and 100% (4-4) from the free throw line.
 
Godwin posted a team high 15 points for the Scarlet Raiders while he added five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Travis Miles added 12 points and seven rebounds while Levi Holton posted eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. Tyrone Bowens led the team with nine rebounds while he added five points. The team shot 40% (21-52) from the field, 27% (3-11) from the three-point line and 43% (7-16) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, November 28th at 7:30pm when they host the City College of New York in a non-conference game at the Bradley Center.
