Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball held onto a 78-67 win over Purchase College today at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 2-1 overall while the Panthers now stand at 2-2 on the year.
The Roadrunners held off a determined Purchase team down the stretch to come away with their second victory of the season. With under 12 left to play in the second half, the Roadrunners held a 57-45 lead after a made basket from Jordan Meyers. The Panthers then went on a 9-1 run as Ramapo held a four point lead with under eight minutes left in the game, 58-54. The Roadrunners stretched it back to seven before Wesley Fulcher sank a three-pointer and Isaac Johnson scored on a layup to cut the lead to two, 61-59, with 5:29 on the clock. A pair of free throws from Meyers and a jumper and one free throw from Purchase cut the lead to just one, 63-62, with under five to play. The Roadrunners scored their next five point at the free throw line as they led, 68-62 with 1:51 left to play. James Brady sank a pair of free throws before Ramapo went on a 10-3 run to close out the game and the 78-67 win.
Peter Gorman led the Roadrunners with a career high 28 points as he finished 8-14 from the field and 10-11 from the free throw line while also contributing with two three-pointers. He also recorded a team high five steals while adding two assists and four rebounds.
Will Brown posted 17 points while he finished 8-8 from the free throw line and 4-5 from the field. Jordan Meyers led the team with nine rebounds while he added 13 points, one steal and one blocked shot. The Roadrunners shot 42% (21-50) from the field, 40% (4-10) from the three-point line and 74% (32-43) from the free throw line. The Ramapo defense forced 23 Panther turnovers that led to 26 points for the Roadrunners.
For the Panthers, Matthew Phillips led the way with 13 points and ten rebounds while Johnson posted ten points and Brady added nine. Trey Skeete collected eight points while Mark Morgan tallied seven in the game. The team shot 36% (21-57) from the field, 26% (7-26) from the three-point line and 66% (18-27) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action at the Bradley Center on Tuesday, November 22nd as they open up NJAC conference play against Rutgers-Newark University at 7:30pm.
