Ederson La Torre led the Ramapo College men's soccer team over visiting Rutgers-Newark University today with the game-winner with 12 seconds left in the game for the 2-1 victory. The Roadrunners move to 3-6-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at 6-6-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference. Heading into tonight's remaining conference games to be played, the two teams are tied for second place in the NJAC.
The Scarlet Raiders got on the board in the first half in the 25th minute (24:12) with a goal from Pablo Moreno off an assist from Juwan Ash. The score held until late in the second half with under nine minutes left in the game as
Juan Uribe slipped in the game-tying goal as
Jake Szatkowski earned the assist to knot the score, 1-1 with 81:56 on the clock. That set up La Torre's game-winning goal with 12 seconds on the clock. A misplayed header back to the Scarlet Raiders keeper allowed La Torre to collect the ball and bury his second goal of the season for the 2-1 lead.
Rutgers-Newark recorded eight shots on goal and one corner kick while the Roadrunners tallied four shots on goal and three corner kicks.
Nikolai Matthews posted seven saves in the game including six in the first half while Christian Andrach posted two saves for the Scarlet Raiders.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 22nd when they host NJAC rival Stockton University at the Athletic Center Turf Field at 12pm.
