Montclair, NJ: The #20/23 Montclair State University men's soccer team posted a 5-2 win over Ramapo College tonight at MSU Soccer Park. The Red Hawks move to 8-1-3 overall and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the NJAC.
MSU scored two goals in the first half as Anthony Viola scored to put the Red Hawks on the board in the 22nd minute (21:45) before Ian Chesney converted on a penalty kick in the final minute of the half (44:06).
Ramapo cut the lead to one in the 56th minute (55:52) when
Damian Zurawski scored on a header from
Osbin Mendez to get the Roadrunners on the board, 1-2. MSU would come back with goals from Jacob Bartnik (81:41) and Josiah Crawford (85:09) to extend their lead, 4-1. The Roadrunners got their second goal from Mendez as he scored on a free kick at the top of the box in the 86th minute (85:58) before MSU added their final goal of the game on a free kick from Chesney to once again extend the lead, 5-2.
MSU held a slight advantage in shots in the game 14-11 including 11-8 on goal while Ramapo posted three corner kicks to the Red Hawk's two. Matt Wilcox recorded six saves for the Roadrunners in goal while Boris Del Valle also tallied six saves for MSU.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 8th when they host New Jersey City University in a NJAC game at the Athletic Center Turf Field at 1pm.
