THOMPSON POSTS DOUBLE DOUBLE IN LOSS AT MSU

Montclair, NJ:  The Montclair State University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today in non-conference action 55-45. The Red Hawks improve to 6-6 overall while the Roadrunners move to 6-5 overall.
 
The Red Hawks outscored Ramapo 32-16 in the first two quarters of action as they held the 16 point lead at halftime. The Roadrunners would come back with a strong third quarter as they outscored MSU, 20-9, heading into the final quarter down just five points. Ramapo went on a 9-0 run in the third quarter as Jada Thompson sank a pair of free throws with 6:07 on the clock and it was capped off with a jumper from Bridget Cahill to come within seven, 29-36 with just under five to play in the third quarter. MSU stretched their lead back to ten before Ramapo finished the quarter on a mini 6-1 run. Thompson tallied four points during the run while Jackie Ventricelli scored the final basket of the quarter for either team to bring Ramapo within five. Ramapo kept the MSU lead within sight in the first eight minutes of the final quarter before MSU built their lead back to double digits with a three-pointer from Julia Sutton and a pair of free throws from Nickie Carter for a 53-41 lead with just 1:54 left to play. Thompson and Sutton traded baskets down the stretch before Shannon Burns scored the final basket of the game for either team as MSU held on for a 55-45 win.
 
Thompson led the Roadrunners with her third double double of the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds including a team high seven offensive rebounds. Alie Wickersheim posted ten points and six rebounds while Cahill contributed with six points and three rebounds. The Roadrunners shot 29% from the field (18-62) and 56% from the free throw line (9-16) in the game. The Ramapo defense forced 23 MSU turnovers which led 17 points for the Roadrunners.
 
Sutton finished with a game high 20 points for MSU including four made three-pointers while Carter posted 18 points and finished 8-9 from the free throw line. Kendal Hodges contributed with six points and six rebounds and a team high five assists. The team shot 32% (17-52) from the floor, 25% (6-24) from the three-point line and 88% (15-17) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 12th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC conference game at 5pm.
