Mahwah, NJ: The Profs of Rowan University defeated the Ramapo College Women's Basketball Team today in a NJAC conference match-up at the Bradley Center, 83-72. The Profs improve to 10-5 overall, 8-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners stand at 6-6 overall, 5-4 in the NJAC.
The Profs opened the game with a jumper from Grace Marshall but the Roadrunners answered back; taking an 8-0 run capped off by a three-point shot from
Bridget Cahill, 8-2. With five minutes left on the clock, Nicole Mallard would spark a 14-2 run for Rowan to end the quarter, 21-14. The two teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter until Cahill sank a three-pointer setting up a seven point run for the Roadrunners. The run was capped off by a pair of free throws from
Alie Wickersheim, tying the game at 36. Rowan would tack on two free-throws and Cahill would net the final two points of the half to send the teams into the locker room tied at 38.
Jackie Ventricelli would tally a three-pointer for Ramapo to start the second half, but the Profs would go on a 12-2 sparked by a three-pointer from Kristina Johnson, 50-43. Cahill tacked on three more for the Roadrunners before a series of free throws and a three-point shot, all from Savanna Holt, added nine points for the Profs, 59-46. The third quarter ended with a last second shot from Wickersheim and the Roadrunners down, 52-66. Ramapo would go on to outscore the Profs in the fourth quarter, 20-17, however it would not be enough to take the as Rowan outlasted Ramapo, 83-72.
Ventricelli led the Roadrunners with a season high 18 points while she added 11 rebounds for her second double double of the season. Cahill added 16 points and Wickersheim netted 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her third double double of the year. Ramapo shot 21-61 (34.4%) from the field, 8-23 (34.8%) from beyond the three-point line, and 22-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line.
Rowan was led by Mallard and Marshall with 18 points each and Holt netted 18. Mallard collected eight rebounds. The team was 29-78 (37.2%) from the field, 9-28 (32.1%) from the three-point line, and 16-19 (84.2%) from the line. The Profs also recorded 13 steals.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 19th at 6pm as they travel to William Paterson University for a NJAC match-up.
