Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University men's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today in NJAC action, 81-65. The Gothic Knights move to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Gothic Knights' Ryan Savoy sank a three-pointer to open the game and NJCU never looked back as they earned the NJAC victory. The Roadrunners came within eight with 4:11 left to play in the first half before NJCU stretched their lead back to double digits with a dunk from Savoy, 36-26. A free throw from Ramapo's
Peter Gorman put the Roadrunners down just nine (3:06) before Denzel Banks sank a three-pointer for the Gothic Knights to give them a double digit lead for the remainder of the game. NJCU held their biggest lead in the second half, a 21-point hold on the Roadrunners, with just under five minutes to play in the game.
Three Roadrunners scored in double figures in the game as they were led by
Marquise Kindel. Kindel tallied his fourth double double and season high 17 points while he added 12 rebounds.
Jordan Myers tallied 12 points while
Isaiah Hall contributed with ten points. Joseph Bryan added nine points and seven rebounds and
Shane Rooney tallied six points. Ramapo shot 47% (23-48) from the field and 73% (19-26) from the free throw line.
NJCU was led by Kayton Darley who posted 21 points including three three-pointers in the game. He also dished out four assists and recorded four steals. Banks posted 20 points and a team high six steals while Savoy added 11 points in the game. The Gothic Knights shot 46% (30-65) from the field, 40% (8-20) from the three-point line and 92% (13-14) from the three-point line.
The Roadrunners return to action on January 12th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden for a NJAC conference game at 3pm.
