Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated Rutgers-Camden University today, 73-61. The Roadrunners move to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors now stand at 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an 11-0 lead to open the game in the first four minutes of action.
Marquise Kindel scored the first basket for the team before
Peter Gorman made back-to-back jumpers for a 6-0 lead.
Shane Rooney then sank a pair of free throws before
Justin Bladen converted an and one play for the 11-0 lead. Rutgers-Camden then tallied back-to-back three-pointers to get on the board, 6-11 before Ramapo went on a mini 6-0 run capped off with a jumper from Kindel with 11:07 on the clock for a 17-6 lead. Ramapo ended the first half on a 12-7 run.
Anthony Corbo led the way in the final minutes of the half with five points while the Roadrunners went into the locker room up, 39-25.
Ramapo led the whole second half with a double digit lead. Rutgers-Camden closed the gap to ten points multiple times in the first six minutes of action. Ramapo would take their biggest lead with 9:15 on the clock when
Isaiah Hall took a pass from Gorman to give Ramapo a 21-point lead, 64-43. The Scarlet Raptors would cut the lead back to ten with 4:26 left to play as Gavin Henry sank a three-pointer, 66-56. Ramapo would hold Rutgers-Camden down the stretch and Gorman tallied the final points on the board for either team to give Ramapo a 73-61 road victory.
Three Roadrunners scored in double figures in the game as they were led by Corbo who tallied a career high 19 points. He also posted five rebounds and was perfect from the free throw line (6-6). Gorman posted 11 points, six rebounds and a team high five assists along with one steal while Kindel added ten points in the game. Jordan Meyers added eight points and a team high seven rebounds while
Mansfield Warren and Joseph Bryan each recorded eight points. The team shot 59% in the game (28-47), 16% (1-6) from the three-point line and 69% (16-23) from the free throw line.
For Rutgers-Camden, Henry led both teams with 26 points as he finished 10-18 from the field including three three-pointers along with 3-3 from the free throw line. Tristan Cornish added ten points and four rebounds. The team shot 41% (23-56) from the field, 25% (8-32) from the three-point line and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line.
Ramapo will return to action on Saturday, January 15th when they host Rowan University in a NJAC conference game at 1pm.
