Madison, NJ: Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham opened the 2021 season with a 1-0 win over visiting Ramapo College today in non-conference action. The Devils stand at 1-0 overall while the Roadrunners are 0-1 overall.
The Devils would see themselves with a 1-0 lead following an own goal by the Roadrunners in the 24th minute (23:13). The ball was knocked in following a corner kick by Ramapo. FDU-Florham held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half and a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.
Ramapo would come back with ten shots in the second half to the Devil's three but could not find the net to tie the game.
Lauren Vladyka put a shot on goal for Ramapo while the Devils needed a goal line save by the defense to keep the Roadrunners off the board in the second half (57:36) before a header in the 88th minute from
Jessica Guccione also was saved by FDU on the goal line to hold the lead. The Roadrunners collected all four corner kicks of the second half. For the game, Ramapo held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Emma Conlan recorded three saves for the Roadrunners while Ashley Paoulino (one save) and Erica Blackburn (two saves) split the game in the net for the Devils.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, September 4th when they host SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference game at the Athletic Center-Grass Field at 1pm.
