Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team kicked off the 2021 season today as they played host to SUNY Oneonta at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners collected their first win of the season as they defeated the Red Dragons, 3-0. Ramapo opens the year at 1-0 and SUNY Oneonta opens the season at 0-1.
The Roadrunners took the lead at 17:31 when senior
Mariah Tovar ripped a shot past the goaltender off an assist from
Victoria Docherty. The score would stand until the halftime buzzer where Ramapo led in shots, 15-2 and corners, 10-1. Ramapo's
Michelle Kukan made one save in the cage while Kristy Campana collected 11 for Oneonta.
At the start of the second half,
Talitha Joustra would give the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage as she scored off an assist from Tovar. The goal came at 31:03. With under a minute to play, Joustra struck again to give Ramapo the 3-0 shutout victory.
Kukan was able to hold off the Red Dragons for the remainder of the game with one additional save, where Ramapo took ten shots in the half. Campana made five more saves for Oneonta. Ramapo collected six corners.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 4
th as they travel to Lasell for a 1pm start.
