RAMAPO SOFTBALL BOWS OUT OF NJAC TOURNAMENT

Glassboro, NJ:  The #1 Rowan University softball team advanced in the 2021 NJAC Softball Tournament with a 3-0 & 6-3 best-of-three series sweep over visiting #8 Ramapo College. The Profs improve to 27-5 overall while the Roadrunners wrap up the season at 8-15 overall.
 
Emily August fired a one-hitter in game one as the Profs defeated the Roadrunners 3-0. Rowan got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Korie Hauge walked to lead off before advancing to second on a single from Mariah Wysocki. Mackenzie Short then drove home the first run with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Sarah Brosman then lifted a sac fly to right field allowing Wysocki to touch home plate, 2-0. Rowan added one run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brosman recorded her second RBI of the game on a sac fly to push the score to 3-0.
 
August worked a complete game with 12 strikeouts and no walks to move to 13-2 overall.
 
Mahogany Wheeler struck out two, walked one and scattered six hits in the loss for Ramapo.
 
In game two, Rowan took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Morgan Zane belted a two-run home run. Ramapo took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Thu Deo and Carley Layton each singled to lead off the inning before they moved up on a sac bunt. Anna Messina and Krista Verrino then ripped singles to plate two runs before Carli Egan plated the go-ahead run with an RBI single.
 
Rowan plated the game-tying run when Bryant scored on a wild pitch, 3-3. The Profs took a 5-3 lead in the sixth when Hague belted a two-run home run. Zane would make it 6-3 with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.
 
August (14-2) earned the win in relief for the Profs as she worked the final 5.1 innings. She struck out three, walked three and scattered three hits in relief.
 
Wheeler (6-8) struck out five, walked one and scattered eight hits in the loss for the Roadrunners. Messina, Verrino, and Wheeler each collected two hits for Ramapo.
