Mahwah, NJ: The William Paterson University baseball team completed the home-and-home series sweep over Ramapo College this afternoon with a 5-0 win. The #23 Pioneers improve to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
WPU got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with two runs. Frankie Deane and Colin Lombardo recorded back-to-back doubles to plate the first run as Deane scored. An error allowed Lombardo to move to third base before scoring on an RBI groundout for the 2-0 lead.
The Roadrunners broke up the WPU no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brian Baranock laced a double into the right-center field gap. The Pioneers added one run in the sixth inning when Steve DiGirolamo worked a bases loaded walk allowing Carson Weiss to cross home plate for a 3-0 lead. In the top of the ninth Deane poked a hard-hit single down the left field line plating two more runs for the Pioneers, pushing the lead to 5-0.
WPU starting pitcher Jason Palmeri (3-1) fired a three-hit shutout in eight complete innings. He struck out six and walked none.
Riley Weis worked the final inning for the Pioneers striking out two.
Matt Stewart (0-1) took the look on the mound for Ramapo. He struck out three, walked one and scattered six hits over 5.1 of work.
Jeff Millett worked 1.2 innings, he struck out four, walked two and surrendered just one hit.
Andrew Case worked the final two innings for Ramapo. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered three hits and two runs.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they travel to the College of New Jersey for a NJAC doubleheader beginning at 11:30am.
