PROFS TAKE TWO FROM RAMAPO IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The #16 Rowan University baseball team earned two wins today over Ramapo College 10-2 in game one and a 5-4 win in a 12-inning game two. The Profs improve to 15-3 overall and 13-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 8-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference.
 
Game One
The Profs pounded out 21 hits in the 10-2 victory including a two-run home run from Ryan Mostrangeli in the fifth inning. Rowan took a 5-0 lead in the third inning with three straight RBI singles before Victor Cruz lifted a sac fly to center field to plate the fourth run. Jared Marks put down a sac bunt allowing Michael Manganella to score for a 5-0 lead.
 
Ramapo came back with two runs in their half of the third. Kyle Buser singled home Garett Wiedemann before Kellen Hardy drove home Justin Grippo, 2-5. In the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Mostrangeli belted a two-run home run over the left-center field fence to extend the lead, 7-2. In the eighth the Profs scored two more runs when Jared Marks and Mostrangeli each recorded RBI doubles, 9-2. In the ninth, Trip McCarffrey lifted a sac fly that plated Alex Kokos for the tenth run of the game, 10-2.
 
Eli Atiya (4-1) earned the win on the mound for Rowan. He struck out nine, walked one and let up eight hits and two runs. Jason O'Neill worked the final three innings, he struck out one, walked none and surrendered just two hits.
 
Matt Stewart (1-2) took the loss for the Roadrunners. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered 13 hits in five innings. Dan Russo worked the final four innings. He struck out two, walked two and scattered eight hits while he let up three runs.
 
Game Two
Rowan got on the board first in the second game with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning without recording a hit. An RBI groundout from Jason Bobiak plated McCaffrey with the game's first run. Ramapo would come back in the bottom half of the inning with one run of their own. Christian Alonso poked a single through the left side of the infield that allowed Buser to score to tie the game, 1-1.
 
Ramapo would take a 3-1 lead in the fifth. Grippo put down a sac bunt that allowed Wiedemann to score before Buser drove a hard hit single up the middle which plated Bryan Franko for the two-run lead. In the seventh, the Profs would get one back on a sac fly from Ryan Murphy, 3-2 before they scored two runs in the eighth inning. Victor Cruz was able to score on a fielder's choice to tie the game before Nick Schooley drove a single through the left side of the infield which plated Marks with a 4-3 lead.
 
With one out in the ninth inning, Wiedemann singled to right field before Franko laced a double down the left field line that plated the game-tying run, 4-4. Franko was able to advance to third on the relay throw home before Rowan got out of the jam with a ground out to end the Roadrunner threat. It wasn't until the top of the 12th inning when Kokos drove home Mostrangeli with a sac fly for the 5-4 lead. The Profs held the Roadrunners in the bottom half of the inning to earn their sixth win in a row.
 
Zach Listro (2-0) earned the win in relief for the Profs. In five innings of work he struck out two, walked none and scattered three hits.
 
Justin Grippo (0-1) took the tough loss in relief for Ramapo. He struck out two, walked three and scattered four hits in the final four innings. Wiedemann led the team in game two, he finished 3-5 with two runs scored.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, April 29th when they host Rutgers-Newark University at 3:30pm.
