Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team completed the home-and-home series sweep today with a 17-11 road win over New Jersey City University. The Roadrunners improve to 8-6 overall and 7-5 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights now stand at 4-19 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
Ramapo pounded out 20 hits in the game as they scored 17 runs. Ramapo had two big innings scoring five runs in both the fifth and seventh innings. The fifth inning was highlighted by
Justin Grippo's two-RBI double to right-center field. NJCU tacked on five runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Roadrunners held a 12-8 lead. In the top of the seventh, Ramapo added five more runs to extend the score 17-8. Hardy led off with a walk and
Justin Garthaffner singled before both moved up one base on a sac bunt.
Matt Meola drew a walk to load the bases before Wiedemann cracked a double to right-center field as Hardy and Ju. Garthaffner scored. One more run came home on a balk before
Bryan Franko and Calero each recorded doubles to push two more runs home.
The Gothic Knights added two runs in the seventh. D Duran drove home Mitchell Leslie with an RBI ground out before Brandon Rivera lifted a sac fly to center field, 10-17. NJCU added their final run in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded wild pitch before the Roadrunners got out of the jam to earn the win, 17-11.
Ju. Garthaffner led the team at the plate with a 4-6 day with four RBI and two runs scored including a two-run home run. Buser collected three hits and three runs scored while Grippo tallied two hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
Jarod Abram (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners. He struck out four and walked two while he scattered eight hits.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow morning when they host NJAC rival Rowan University at Jeff Maund Field at 11:30am.
