Mahwah, NJ: The City College of New York men's basketball team posted an 82-76 win over Ramapo College tonight at the Bradley Center in non-conference action. The Beavers move to 3-2 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-1 on the season.
The Beavers led by seven with just under 4:30 to go in the first half (41-34) before the Roadrunners cut it to two (39-41) with a jumper from
Jordan Myers and a three-pointer from
Peter Gorman with just under three minutes to go in the half. Bayame Bah converted a pair of free throws and
Shane Rooney hit a jumper before the half was over CCNY took a two point lead into the locker room, 43-41.
Rooney tied the game 43-43 with the first basket in the second half before CCNY regained the lead with a layup from Yassine Sakhi, 45-43. A layup from Rooney and a made free throw from
Marquise Kindel put Ramapo up 47-45 before Dashaun Galloway and Elijah Patterson converted on a free throw and jumper respectively for a 48-47 lead with 16:21 on the clock. A Rooney tip-in put Ramapo up one before Joey Leighton sparked a 14-0 run that was capped off with a tip-in from Galloway to take a 62-49 lead with just under 11 minutes to play in the game. Warren converted on an and-one play before Sakhi sank a three-pointer and Galloway added a layup for a 15-point lead. Ramapo would cut the lead to nine with 3:08 on the clock when Gorman converted on an and-one play (68-77) to start an 11-4 run to come within five, 76-81, with under one minute to play. Leighton converted one of two free throws for CCNY to score the final point of the game as they held onto the 82-76 victory.
Four starters for CCNY scored in double figures while the team made ten three-pointers in the game. Sakhi finished with a team high 29 points including 5-7 from the three-point line, 8-18 from the floor and 8-12 from the free throw line. Leighton finished with 15 points, five assists and four rebounds and four made three-pointers. Galloway added 15 points, six assists and six rebounds while Assani added 13 points, two blocks, two steals and four rebounds. CCNY forced 20 RCNJ turnovers that led to 24 points for the Beavers.
Ramapo was led by Gorman who posted 17 points and six assists while Myers posted a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and one blocked shot. Kindel also contributed with a double double, 14 points and a team high 12 rebounds while Warren added 15 points, seven assists and two steals. Rooney added eight points, ten rebounds and one blocked shot. The Ramapo defense forced 15 CCNY turnovers that led to 15 points for the Roadrunners while the team also tallied 36 points in the paint.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, November 20th when they travel to Arlington, VA and Marymount University for the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament. The Roadrunners take on the hosts on Saturday at 1pm.
