Mahwah, NJ: Behind an overtime goal from
Victoria Docherty, the #1 seeded Roadrunners of Ramapo College advance to the finals of the 2021 ECAC Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament as they defeated Widener University, 2-1 on the Mahwah Campus. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 14-7 overall while Widener finishes the season at 16-5 overall.
In an evenly matched game, it would take just over 56 minutes for a point to get on the board as Bryn Marcavage of Widener would hit the back of the cage on a penalty corner to go ahead 1-0. With just over a minute and a half to play, Lucy Mackenzie would tie the game for Ramapo as they capitalized off a penalty corner of their own. The score would remain until the regulation buzzer forcing overtime.
Michelle Kukan made four saves in regulation for Ramapo while Kylie Haberstroh would collect six.
In the overtime period,
Mariah Tovar would dish a ball to Docherty who ripped it past the goaltender earning the game winner and her 24
th goal of the season. The goal came just 1:43 into the overtime period.
Widener held a slight advantage in shots, 12-9 for the game while also just edging Ramapo in penalty corners, 8-7.
In the second semi-final match-up between the #1 seeded Misericordia and the #2 seeded FDU-Florham, it would be the Devils of FDU who would advance with a 2-1 overtime win behind a goal from Ashley Moskal. With the victory, FDU improves to 12-8 overall and Misericordia wraps up the season at 14-8.
Olivia Kempf got Misericordia on the board in the first half of play as she hit the back of the cage at 15:39 to go ahead 1-0. With just 1:24 to play in regulation, Megan Surgent would score for the Devils off an assist from Erin Kay to force overtime play.
In the first overtime period, Moskal got the game winner at 63:45 to advance FDU into tomorrow's final.
FDU and Misericordia each collected five shots and the two goalies each made two saves in the game.
