#1 RAMAPO BLANKS #4 SWEET BRIAR IN ECAC TOURNAMENT

Mariah Tovar sets career assist mark with her 19th of her career

Mahwah, NJ:  The #1 seeded Ramapo College field hockey team advanced in the 2021 ECAC Championship Tournament with a 5-0 win over #4 Sweet Briar College. The Roadrunners improve to 13-7 overall while the Vixens wrap up their season with a 13-9 record.
 
The Roadrunners earn their program best 13th win of the season and their first postseason tournament win in program history. Mariah Tovar got the Roadrunners on the board with the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth minute of action, her seventh of the year. Victoria Docherty collected her team leading 23rd goal of the year off a pass from Emily Ricciardi in the 10th minute of play to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Gabbi Gomez scored her first goal of the year off a pass from Katie Yarussi in the 23rd minute before Talitha Joustra scored back-to-back goals in the 29th and 52nd minute to extend the Ramapo lead to 5-0. Joustra first scored an unassisted goal before Maggie Farrell and Tovar earned the assists on the final goal of the game. Tovar earned her 19th career assist which is now the new program career record at Ramapo.
 
Ramapo posted 27 shots in the game while Roadrunner goalie Michelle Kukan did not need to make a save in 55:05 minutes of action. Sam Conrad worked the final 4:55 in the net for Ramapo and also did not need to make a save or face a shot. The Roadrunners also posted 14 penalty corners. Janie Bolling tallied two saves for Sweet Briar while Ashley Maggiora tallied 11 saves for the team as they split time in the cage.
 
Ramapo moves onto the ECAC Semifinal on Saturday at 11am and will play the winner of #2 Widener and #3 William Paterson; the pair square off in a first-round game tonight at 7pm. An updated bracket and schedule will be posted on ramapoathletics.com upon completion of all first-round games later tonight.
