FIELD HOCKEY EARNS KEY NJAC WIN OVER WPU 4-2

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College field hockey team won a key NJAC conference game today with a 4-2 win over William Paterson University. The Roadrunners improve to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC while the Pioneers move to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
 
In a re-match of the 2020 NJAC Championship game, the Roadrunners recorded a goal in each quarter this afternoon to pull away from WPU late in the game. Emily Ricciardi put Ramapo on the board in the third minute of action (2:19) off a pass from Talitha Joustra, to score her first goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead. WPU tied the game in the 6th minute (5:35) when Kristin Freas-Papa scored her sixth goal of the season, 1-1.
 
In the second quarter, Joustra posted her first goal of the game and Mariah Tovar recorded the assist to put Ramapo up 2-1 in the 23rd minute before Louise Nastasi tied the game at two all in the third quarter (43:26). Joustra then scored her eighth goal of the season and second of the game in the 45th minute (44:59) as Katie Yarussi earned the assist off the insert on a penalty corner, 3-2. Angela Oskierko would give the Roadrunners an insurance goal in the 56th minute, her sixth goal of the season, to push the score 4-2. Ramapo held the WPU offense the final five minutes of action to earn the victory.
 
Ramapo recorded 25 shots including 13 on goal in the game while they tallied 21 penalty corners. WPU tallied four shots, three on goal in the game and recorded three penalty corners. Michelle Kukan posted one save for the Roadrunners while Emily Hoagland tallied eight saves for WPU.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, October 23rd when they travel to #13 ranked College of New Jersey for a game at 12pm for the final conference game of the season.
