ROADRUNNERS FALL TO NJCU ON THE ROAD, EARN #3 SEED IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University men's basketball team posted an 81-78 NJAC victory over Ramapo College. With the win, the Gothic Knights (13-12, 10-8 NJAC) earn the league's #5 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament and the Roadrunners earn the #3 seed. Ramapo (15-10, 11-7 NJAC) will host a NJAC Tournament quarter final game on Saturday, February 22nd at 1pm at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners will take on rival #6 Rowan University who finished the regular season 14-11 overall.  
 
Rob McWilliams opened the scoring for Ramapo to start the game up 2-0 before the two teams traded baskets. Jeff Haddock sank a three-pointer and Tarique Holmes connected on a jumper for a 9-4 lead with 16:47 on the clock. McWilliams started a 7-2 run for Ramapo as Marquise Kindel collected five points as Ramapo tied the game 11-11 on an and-one play from Kindel with less than 15 minutes left in the half. Jaimik Moore and Kindel traded baskets for a 13-13 score before Jason Battle gave Ramapo a 15-13 lead. NJCU went on a mini 6-0 run capped off by a jumper from Denzel Banks 19-15 before Ramapo went on a 7-2 run of their own. Travis Bennett capped off the run with a three-pointer for a 22-21 lead. The Gothic Knights went on a 7-0 run for a 28-22 lead before an 8-5 run from Ramapo brought the Roadrunners within three. Kindel connected on a pair of free throws 30-33 with less than five minutes left in the half. Moore connected on a layup and Jordan Zagadou sank a pair of free throws for Ramapo to close the gap 32-35 before Haddock connected on a three-pointer for a 38-32 NJCU lead with 3:21 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch while the Roadrunner once again closed the gap to three 40-43 on a three-pointer from Bennett to head into the locker room.
 
Jahmere Calhoun started the scoring for NJCU in the second half with a basket before Connor Romano connected on a pass from Williams to sink a three-pointer 43-45. The three-pointer from Romano started an 8-0 run that was capped off with an and-one play from Zagadou for a 48-45 lead with 17:45 on the clock. Sam Toney sank a three-pointer for NJCU to tie the game at 48 while Banks converted on a pair of free throws for a 50-48 lead. A 12-2 run from Ramapo over the next 4:32 of the game which included four points from Zagadou and Kindel gave Ramapo a 60-52 lead with less than 12 minutes left to play. An 11-4 run from NJCU which included three-pointers from Toney and Banks cut the Ramapo lead to one, 64-63 with less than seven minutes on the clock. Zagadou put down a dunk for Ramapo 66-63 before Moore recorded a pair of free throws and Calhoun tacked on jumper for NJCU for a 67-66 lead with 5:51 on the clock. Zagadou and Toney traded baskets before Moore converted a pair of free throws for a three-point lead 71-68 with 3:58 on the clock. Ramapo took a 72-71 lead on a jumper from McWilliams before Banks and Kindel would trade baskets for a 76-75 lead for Ramapo. Calhoun and Moore hit back-to-back baskets for a 79-76 NJCU lead before McWilliams scored a pair of free throws with ten seconds remaining to cut the lead to one 78-79. Following a Ramapo time out, Banks sank a pair of key free throws with seven seconds on the clock 81-78 in favor of the Gothic Knights. Ramapo's final shot to tie the game did not fall as NJCU came away with the three-point victory 81-78.
 
Kindel led the Roadrunners with 25 points as he finished 10-14 from the field while he pulled down eight rebounds and collected four steals. Zagadou recorded 15 points while he grabbed six rebounds and two blocks. Bennett finished with ten points while McWilliams added nine points and a team high three assists.
 
Four players scored in double figures for NJCU as they were led by Moore who posted 23 points and ten rebounds along with a team high five assists and three steals. Banks tallied 17 points while Haddock and Toney each collected 12 points each.
