MCWILLIAMS POSTS CAREER HIGH IN TOUGH LOSS TO ROWAN

Mahwah, NJ: The #6 Rowan University men's basketball team used an offensive attack that included 13 three-pointers as they defeated #3 Ramapo College 94-80 in a NJAC Tournament first round game. The Profs move to 15-11 overall while the Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 15-11 overall record. Rowan advances to the NJAC Semifinal against #2 Stockton University on Wednesday, February 26th at 7pm. 
 
Ramapo's Connor Romano put the first two points of the game on the board before it was quickly answered by a three-point shot from Rowan's Jerry Price. Both teams traded quick baskets until Ramapo broke the streak with a 7-0 run with layups from Romano and Andre Morgan, and a three-point shot from Rob McWilliams as Ramapo led, 19-15. In an intense first half, Rowan's three-point attack did not let up as Maliq Sanders, Austin Kearney and Travis Holland each fired off three-pointers to put the Profs ahead, 29-21. Sanders and Matt Green would put keep Rowan in the lead with back-to-back dunks as they went into the locker room at halftime up, 47-32.
 
In the first half, the Roadrunners were led by Romano with 11 points while McWilliams collected eight. Defensively, McWilliams led the team with six rebounds. Overall, Ramapo shot 31.7% from the field. The Profs were led by two players who scored in double figures, Sanders with 13 points and Kearney with 12. Overall, Rowan shot 55.2% from the field.
 
The Profs started the second half with back-to-back three-point shots from Kearney and Ryan O'Leary. The Roadrunners would go on an 8-0 run with jumpers from Jordan Zagadou and Marquise Kindel and capped off by four points from McWilliams to shrink the lead, 46-57. Sanders, Price and O'Leary could not be stopped, all sinking three-pointers to once again extend the Rowan lead. The Ramapo offense found some energy from the crowd with slam dunks from Zagadou and McWilliams but the Profs continued to knock down three-pointers to hold onto the lead. A mini 6-0 run with four points from Zagadou and two from Romano brought the Roadrunners in reach of the Profs, 75-83. Kearney tallied a basket before Mansfield Warren sank a pair of free throws to come within eight 77-85 with 2:20 left to play in the game.  Kearney then capitalized on an and-one play before Smith and Price recorded back-to-back free throws to extend the Prof lead, 92-77. Battle sank a three-point shot for Ramapo before Price added a pair of free throws for Rowan to seal the victory, 94-80.
 
McWilliams led the Roadrunners in the game as he recorded a career high 28 points while he added 12 rebounds. Zagadou recorded ten points and 12 rebounds while Romano added 16 points and Kindel contributed with ten. The Roadrunners shot 36.5% (31-85) from the field.
 
All five starters for Rowan scored in double figures as they were led by Kearney who posted 24 points and finished 9-9 from the field and 3-3 from the three-point line. Sanders tallied 22 points while Price posted 16 points and a team high eight assists. O'Leary collected 11 points and eight rebounds while Bah tallied ten points in the game. The Profs shot 50.8% (32-63) overall and 39.4% (13-33) from the three-point line.
