Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson University today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up 85-56. The Roadrunners improve to 15-9 overall, 11-6 in the conference while the Pioneers fall to 9-15 overall, 5-12 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners were led by
Jordan Zagadou who recorded a double double 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Connor Romano netted 19 points and collected seven rebounds,
Marquise Kindel had 15 points and nine rebounds while
Rob McWilliams scored 14 points. The team shot 35-83 (42%) from the field and 8-9 (89%) from the line and forced 24 WPU turnovers. William Paterson was led by Hershell Williams who had 16 points and Malcolm McLeod who had 15 points and collected six rebounds. Nasir Fields and Sean Smith also collected six rebounds apiece. The team shot 18-51 (35%) from the field and 10-24 (71%) from the line.
The Roadrunners jumped to an early 11-0 lead capped off by a lay-up from Kindel. Williams would go on to sink a three-point shot to put the Pioneers on the board. The Roadrunners answered back going on an 8-0 run behind four points from Kindel, 19-3. With 9:07 on the clock Jadon Cepeda sparked an 11-2 run for the Pioneers capped off by three points from Smith, 21-31. The two teams traded baskets before Romano sparked a 13-1 run for the Roadrunners with three straight three-pointers capped off by a last second shot by McWilliams sending the Roadrunners into the locker room with the 48-24 lead.
Romano led the Roadrunners in the half with 16 points and three rebounds. Zagadou collected six rebounds and netted nine points while Kindel collected six rebounds and eight points. The Roadrunners forced 17 turnovers in the half. The Pioneers were led by Williams who netted seven points while Smith and McLeod both had six.
The Pioneers came out strong to start the second half on a 9-2 run, capped off by a three-point shot from Domenic Mignone, to close the gap 33-50. The two teams traded baskets before Ramapo would go on a mini 6-0 run behind four points from McWilliams, 67-40. With 8:42 left in the game Zagadou would make a lay-up to stretch the Roadrunner lead to 30, 74-44. The two teams would trade baskets to close out the game and the Roadrunners would come away with the win, 85-56.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 19 when they travel to New Jersey City University for an 8:00pm New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
