Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a big win today as they defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson 57-54 at home on senior day. With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 10-14 overall and 4-13 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 10-14 overall and 8-9 in conference play.
Jenna Harsh led the Roadrunners today as she nailed down 15 points, including three three-point goals. She completed the double-double with ten rebounds.
Samantha Rinaldi collected 13 points and
Jessica Repasy added 11 as the team hit a combined 17-47 (36%) in the win.
Stacey Porzl dished out four assists on the day.
William Paterson opened the game with a three-point goal from Alisa Giordano and the two teams traded baskets until
Cherie Smedile nailed down a long shot of her own to put Ramapo on top, 7-6. The Pioneers would string together a 6-0 run to jump ahead 12-7 but Repasy would nail a three and a jumper to tie the game at 12 with 2:45 on the clock. WPU closed out the quarter with a 7-0 run, sparked by Jykayla Elting to lead 19-12 at the buzzer. The Pioneers worked their way to a seven-point (23-16) advantage to start the second after a layup from Vianca Soriano with 7:59 on the clock. A three from Giordano put WPU ahead 26-18 before the Roadrunners strung together a 6-0 run, capped with a layup from Porzl, to come within two, 24-26 with 3:45 to play. The quarter would end with WPU on top, 30-27 as they shot 10-25 (40%) in the half. Ramapo shot 10-26 (39%) behind 11 points from Repasy.
Harsh nailed a three to open the third and tie the game at 30 but William Paterson would gain the lead again and work to a four-point advantage (38-34) with a layup from Soriano with 3:44 on the clock. Harsh nailed a three to go up 39-38 with 1:36 to go and Ramapo finished the third on top, 40-38. Ramapo would string together a 5-0 run to start the final quarter. It was sparked by a three from Harsh to go up 47-40, but Giordano responded with a three of her own to cut the lead to four, 43-47. The Roadrunners would continue to match baskets with the Pioneers to remain on top and at the buzzer it was all Ramapo, 57-54. Ramapo shot 7-21 (33%) in the final half while the Pioneers hit 8-36 (22%).
The Pioneers were led by Giordano and Soriano who each collected 15 points while the team hit a combined 18-61 (30%). Soriano added eight rebounds to the game and Giordano dished out two assists.
