Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University women's basketball team came back to defeat Ramapo College 64-63 in overtime. With the win, the Gothic Knights finish the regular season 12-13 overall and 9-9 in the NJAC, while they earn the #6 seed in the NJAC Tournament. The Roadrunners wrap up the season with a 10-15 overall record and 4-14 in the conference.
The Roadrunners started the game going on a 9-0 run capped off by a three-point shot from
Bridget Cahill. The Gothic Knights answered back going on a 7-0 run of their own to close the gap to two, 7-9. In the last 3:35 of play in the first quarter Ramapo would go on a 7-1 run closed out by a jumper from
Jenna Harsh putting Ramapo up, 21-11. The two teams played evenly to start the second quarter with the Roadrunners remaining on top. With 4:22 left in the half
Stacey Porzl would make a layup and
Sarah Minchin would tack on two more from the line for Ramapo extending the lead, 31-18. NJCU would tack on five more points to close out the half as the Roadrunners held a 33-23 lead heading into the locker room.
The Gothic Knights opened up the second half of play going on a 7-0 run, to come within three of the Roadrunners, 30-33.
Samantha Rinaldi and Ayanna Lewis would trade three-point shots before Ramapo would tack on three more points to hold onto a 39-33 lead. Lewis would then spark a 7-0 run for NJCU, netting five of the points giving the Gothic Knights the one-point lead before a free-throw from
Bianca Fede with 43 seconds left in the quarter would tie the game at 40. The two teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter until the Roadrunners went on a 6-0 run taking the lead, 52-49. Lewis would go to the line for NJCU tacking on two more before Harsh would put the Roadrunners up 54-51. With 0:20 left Hannah Johnson sank a three-point shot tying the game at 54 a piece forcing overtime.
Anderson gave NJCU a 56-54 lead to start a 5-1 run to start the overtime period while Hannah Johnson capped off the run with three straight free throws to take a 59-55 lead with just over three minutes left on the clock. Repasy connected on a pair of free throws to come within two 57-59 with 2:46 on the clock before Lewis and Johnson added four points for NJCU to push the lead to 63-57.
Alie Wickersheim converted on an and-one play before Repasy sank a free throw to come within two 61-63 with less than 35 seconds left to play. In the final seconds of play Taylor-Gaston converted on one of two free throws before Weickersheim cut the NJCU lead to one with a jumper with ten seconds remaining 63-64. The Roadrunner defense forced a NJCU turnover to get the ball back with eight seconds on the clock but could not get a shot off. NJCU came away with the 64-63 NJAC victory.
Ramapo had three Roadrunners score in double figures as they were led by Harsh with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Wickersheim added 13 points and Rinaldi posted 11 points. The Roadrunners shot 36% (19-52) from the floor in the game, 33% (6-18) from the three-point line and 76% (19-25) from the free throw line.
NJCU had four players score in double figures as they were led by Lewis with 20 points and ten rebounds while Johnson collected 14 points and 11 rebounds. McCrae collected 12 points while Andersen posted ten. The team shot 29% (22-74) from the field, 15% (3-20) from the three-point line and 48% (17-35) from the free throw line.
