Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team posted a 78-66 victory today over the Profs of Rowan University on the road. Behind 18 points from
Marquise Kindel, the Roadrunners improve to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rowan falls to 9-11 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Four Roadrunners finished with double-digit points as Kindel led the way with 18, shooting 7-12 from the field and 3-4 from the charity stripe.
Jordan Zagadou collected 17 points and
Rob McWilliams added 15 as the team shot a combined 29-64 (34%). Kindel pulled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists while
Jason Battle led with five assists of his own. He collected 11 points and added two rebounds. The Roadrunners forced 18 Rowan turnovers while only turning the ball over 11 times.
The Profs jumped out to a 10-2 start with a three-point goal from Maliq Sanders before Kindel sparked a 7-0 run capped off with a long shot from McWilliams to come within one, 9-10 with 13:37 on the clock. Jerry Price answered with a three of his own for the Profs and a Damian Smith layup put Rowan on top, 15-9 with 11:28 to go. The Profs would take a 24-18 advantage with a jumper from Matt Green before the Roadrunners began to chip away down the stretch, coming within two, 25-27 with a layup from Zagadou at 3:24. They took the lead (32-31) at the halftime buzzer with a long ball from Battle. In the half, the Roadrunners shot 13-38 (34%) while the Profs went 11-27 (41%). The Roadrunners were led by Kindel with eight points. Sanders sunk eight to lead the Profs in the first half.
In the second, Ramapo would come out on fire connecting a 10-0 run, sparked with a three from
Connor Romano and capped with a layup from Zagadou, before Austin Kearny got the Profs on the board with a three of his own with 16:55 on the clock. Ramapo would take a double-digit lead (44-34) as McWilliams nailed a jumper. The Profs would slowly chip away coming within four (48-52) with a free throw from Jonathan Hevalow with 9:13 to play, but a 7-0 run from Ramapo put them back on top by double-digits, 59-48 with 7:10 to go. The Roadrunners proved to be too much for the Profs as they held their lead the remainder of the game defeating the Profs 78-66 in the conference match-up on the road. Ramapo shot 16-26 (62%) in the half and the Profs laid in 9-31 (29%). Zagadou led with 13 points and Smith with ten for Rowan.
Rowan was led by Green on the day as he finished with 13 points. Kearney and Smith each collected 12 as the team went 20-58 (35%) in the loss. Keaney led with nine rebounds and Price and Sanders each dished out three assists.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 5
th as they host Kean University at 7:30pm.
