RAMAPO DEFEATS LIONS IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's basketball team played host to The College of New Jersey today where the Roadrunners earned a 73-60 victory to improve to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the NJAC.  The Lions fall to 7-7 and 4-3 in conference play.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Marquise Kindel who scored in double digits, who tallied 23 total points including 9-13 from the field. Jason Battle posted a total of 16 points while Rob McWilliams had 12 of his own. McWilliams led the team in rebounds, pulling down 12 throughout the game. Overall, Ramapo shot 49.1% (27-55) from the field, 33.3% (5-15) from the three-point line and 66.7% (1-2) from the free-throw line.
 
Ramapo worked to a ten-point lead (18-8) about halfway through the first half after Mark Howell recorded a layup with 10:32 to play.  Ramapo spent the next seven minutes spreading the gap as they worked to a 33-16 advantage at 3:19 with a basket from Andre Morgan.  After a jumper from Kindel, TCNJ's Mike Walley and Randall Walko nailed down back-to-back baskets to close the gap, 21-35 with 2:13 left in the half.  Rob McWilliams would nail a long shot at the buzzer to head into the locker room with a 40-21 lead. 
 
Kindel led the Roadrunners during the first half with 13 total points scored. Kindel was followed by McWilliams who contributed seven points and Morgan with six points. Connor Romano led the team with seven rebounds, closely followed by McWilliams with six, that contributed to the team's 26 total rebounds. Ramapo shot 51.4% (18-35) from the field, 37.5% (3-8) from the three-point line and 50% (1-2) from the free throw line during the game. The Roadrunner's defense proved effective, forcing five turnovers and blocking two shots.
 
The Lions were led by Travis Jocelyn who tallied eight points during the first half. Jocelyn also contributed three rebounds that contributed to the team's total of 12 rebounds. TCNJ shot 26.9% (7-26) from the field, 26.3% (5-19) from the three-point line and 50% (2-4) from the free throw line.
 
The Lions came out strong on a 10-2 run, slowly closing the gap, capped off by a three-point shot by Walley. The Roadrunners tacked on to the lead with key baskets from Battle and Kindel on a 7-3 point run to extend their lead to 51-34. TCNJ answered back with a three-point goal from Ryan Jensen. A fast break from McWilliams to Romano extends the Roadrunner's lead to 15 points. TCNJ chipped away with a mini 6-0 run, led by Jocelyn and Walko, closing the gap 46-55. Both teams traded three-point shots, followed by Walko who made a crucial three-point shot to close the gap 52-60 with 3:32 left to play. McWilliams answered back with a three-point shot of his own. The Lions and Roadrunners fought a hard last three minutes, exchanging two-points shots, with Ramapo coming out on top 13-11. The Roadrunners took the victory with a 73-60 final score.
 
The Lions were led by Jocelyn who tallied 20 points, going 7-9 at the free-throw line. Jocelyn was accompanied by two others who scored double digit points, Walko with 15 and Jensen with 14. Overall, TCNJ shot 34% (18-53) from the field, 34.3% (12-35) from the three-point line and 63.2% (12-19) from the free-throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 15th when they host New Jersey City University at 7:30pm at the Bradley Center.
