Staten Island, NY: The Ramapo College men's soccer team opened the 2019 season today as they posted a 1-1 tie with the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in overtime. Both the Roadrunners and the Dolphins open the season at 0-0-1 overall.
CSI would strike first in the game and take a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute of play as Bryant Navarro took a pass from Joe Bolella and slipped it past the Roadrunners' netminder in that of Josh Schaffer. That would be the scoring in the first half where Ramapo held a 5-4 lead in shots.
The Roadrunners took control in the second half as they outshot the Dolphins 9-0 and in the 76
th minute,
Nick Petrozziello slipped the ball in the net off a set piece taken by
Ariton Mimini to tie the game at 1-1.
After regulation, the two teams played 20 additional minutes of scoreless soccer as they ended in a 1-1 tie.
Ramapo led in shots for the game at 16-5 and in corners, 6-4. Schaffer made three saves in net. Jake Foeldes made six for CSI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, September 4
th when they host USMMA at 4pm.
