ROADRUNNERS POST TWO SHUTOUTS OVER NJCU IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC doubleheader from New Jersey City University today, 8-0 in five innings in game one and 1-0 in game two.  The Roadrunners improve to 20-10 overall and 11-3 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights now stand at 4-28 overall and 0-14 in the conference.
 
Game One
The Roadrunners scored four runs in the third inning to get on the board. Jackie Howarth walked before she moved to second on a pass ball. Krista Verrino reached on an error as Howarth was able to score on the play for a 1-0 lead. Harper Patsko put down a bunt single to put runners on first and second before a single from Kendra Decker singled to left field to load the bases. Sarah Browning then singled home Verrino before Olivia Mahon drove home two RBI with a single of her own, 4-0.
 
Ramapo added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to force the run-ruled five inning game. In the fourth, Howarth once again led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Verrino's hard hit single up the middle. With runners on first and third and no outs, Patsko plated Verrino with a sac fly, 6-0. The Roadrunners would push two runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs. Carla Goodwin beat out a bunt single before Howarth laced a double into the left-center field gap which allowed Goodwin to score, 7-0. Howarth stole third before Verrino drove her home with a single to right field, 8-0.
 
Erin Fitzsimmons (12-7) surrendered just one hit in the first inning to NJCU as she earned the win on the mound for Ramapo. She struck out three and walked none in the Roadrunners third straight shutout. Howarth, Verrino and Mahon each collected two hits each in the game to lead Ramapo at the plate.
 
Game Two
Jessica Becchetti earned the win on the mound and Fitzsimmons earned the save as the Roadrunners posted their fourth straight shutout. Becchetti (7-2) scattered four hits while she struck out one and walked one in five innings of work. Fitzsimmons surrendered just one hit in two innings of work with one strikeout.
 
Ramapo once again scored with two outs as they pushed the eventual game-winning run across the plate in the fifth inning. Verrino doubled to center field before Carli Egan came up big with a double to the left-center field gap for the 1-0 lead.
 
Decker led the way at the plate in game two as she finished 3-3 with two doubles while Egan and Verrino each collected two hits each.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, April 25th when they travel to Stockton University for a NJAC doubleheader starting at 3pm.
