Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated #4/6 Rowan University 12-6 in NJAC action. With the win the Roadrunners earn their sixth straight win and move to 19-10 overall, 10-3 in the conference while Rowan sees their three-game win streak snapped. The Profs now stand at 24-7 overall and 10-3 in the NJAC.
Ramapo scored four runs in the top of the first inning, all with two outs, to take a 4-0 lead.
Liam Duffy and
Vincent Timpanelli each singled before
Kyle Buser laced a ball back up the middle plating Duffy to get on the board, 1-0.
Vincenzo Sita then ripped a ball into right field which allowed Timpanelli to score from second base, 2-0.
Kellen Hardy laced a triple into right field allowing Buser and Sita to score, 4-0.
In the second inning, Bryan Fanko connected on his first home run of his career to make it 5-0 in favor of the Roadrunners before Buser hit a two RBI triple to center field extending the lead to 7-0.
Rowan scored one run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to close the gap, 5-7. In the fifth, Anthony Harold hit a two-out bases loaded double that plated all three baserunners. The Roadrunners got one back in the top of the sixth inning when Timpanelli drove home
Philip Mahlik with an RBI single to right field, 8-5. Hardy would put one more run on the board for the Roadrunners with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Rowan's Dan Shane led off with a single before the Roadrunners defense got out of the early jam with double play. Ramapo relief pitcher
Jeff Millet recorded the final out of the inning on a strikeout looking. In the top of the ninth, Hardy doubled before
Matt Carovillano was hit by a pitch.
Bryan Franko then laced a double down the left field line platting one run before Carovillano scored on a pass ball for an 11-5 lead.
Anthony Kuzmenko hit a sac fly to center field allowing Franko to score, 12-5.
Greg Westhelle worked the final 1.1 innings for the Roadrunners on the mound to earn his fifth save of the season which ties him for the first on the career list at Ramapo with 10 career saves. He struck out the only batter he faced in the bottom of the eighth before facing four batters in the bottom of the ninth. Rowan put their final run on the board in the ninth when Matt Woods hit a solo home run with two outs. Westhelle induced an infield pop out to end the game as the Roadrunners topped #4/6 Rowan, 12-6.
Riley Weis started on the mound for the Roadrunners working the first four inning with three strikeouts, one walk and scattering two hits. Millet (1-0) worked 3.2 innings with three strikeouts to earn his first win of the year in relief. Duffy and Hardy recorded a team high three hits each while Timpanelli, Buser and Franko each collected two in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 23rd when they host FDU-Florham at 3:30pm.
