BASEBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT IN 12-3 ROAD WIN OVER NJCU

Jersey City, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team completed the home-and-home sweep over New Jersey City University today with a 12-3 NJAC road win. The Roadrunners improve to 18-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference while the Gothic Knights fall to 12-15 overall and 2-10 in the NJAC.
 
The Roadrunners pounded out 12 hits in their 5th straight win as they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Matt Meola and Nick Camilleri each singled with one out before Matt Carovillano hit a double into the right-center field gap, plating both runs for the early lead.
 
NJCU put one run on the board in the fourth inning before Carovillano belted a grand slam in the sixth inning, his first home run of his career, to extend the lead 6-1. In the seventh, Kyle Lisa knocked home Anthony Kuzmenko with an RBI single, 7-1 before NJCU scored one more run in the seventh inning.
 
Ramapo added five runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 12-2 lead. The bases were loaded with no outs before Kyle Buser and Vincenzo Sita each recorded RBI singles for a 9-2 score before Meola drove home one more with a sac fly, 10-2. Buser later scored on a NJCU throwing error before Camilleri lifted a sac fly to center field for the final run of the inning, 12-2. The Gothic Knights plated their final run in the bottom of the ninth inning before Ramapo closed out the game earning the 12-3 victory.
 
Carovillano led the team with six RBI as he finished 2-5 with one run scored. Liam Duffy and Buser also collected two hits in the game. CJ Growney (3-3) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners with nine strikeouts in eight complete innings of work. Growney did not walk a batter and scattered six hits. Greg Westhelle recorded the first two outs of the ninth inning, a strikeout and ground out before Billy Keane entered for the final out of the game, recording a strikeout.
 
The Roadrunners will return to action on Saturday, April 20th when they travel to NJAC rival #4/6 Rowan University for a conference double header starting at 11:30am.
