Mahwah, NJ: In a back-and-forth battle today at the Athletic Center, the Cougars of Kean University defeated the Ramapo College women's lacrosse team 14-11 in a NJAC conference match-up. The Cougars improve to 5-9 overall, 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Roadrunners fall to 6-6 overall, 0-3 in the conference.
Kean jumped to an early 2-0 lead five minutes into the first half before
Shannon Eagan would put Ramapo on the board to close the gap. The Cougars would connect two goals before
Beth McGraw would hit the back of the net for Ramapo to come within two, 2-4. Kean would tack on one more and the Roadrunners would tally four straight goals as
Ava Rinaldi would hit the back of the net and
Nicole Jaskot would do the same just under a minute later. Jaskot would then net the next two goals putting the Roadrunners up 6-5. The Cougars would tack on three more goals in the last 4:30 of play in the half to head into halftime up 8-6.
Kean led in shots 15-10 in the first half and
Alexandra Kerwin made five saves for Ramapo. Josie Pagano recorded three saves for the Cougars.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the second half by netting three goals in under five minutes of play to lead 11-6. Eagan would add one for the Roadrunners before Kean would tack on two more goals to go ahead 13-7. The Roadrunners would go on to score four goals starting with one from
Gabi Davidson. McGraw would then receive a pass from Rinaldi that she ripped into the back of the net just over thirty seconds later.
Molly Warner would pass the ball to Davidson who drove it past the goalie and Jaskot would record the final Ramapo goal of the game with 7:25 left to play to close the gap to 11-13. Kean would add one more for safety to come through with the 14-11 victory.
Kerwin made one more save in the second half as the Roadrunners out shot the Cougars, 13-10. Gabby Krug was in the net for the Cougars in the second half and recorded seven saves.
The Cougars finished the day with 21 ground balls while Ramapo recorded 20.
The Roadrunners were led by Jaskot recording four goals while Davidson, Eagan, and McGraw all recorded two. Danni LeSaint led Kean with five goals and Sarah Powers collected three.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 20
th when they travel to #16 The College of New Jersey for a NJAC match-up at 1:00pm.
