ROADRUNNERS SWEEP RUTGERS NEWARK IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark today 1-0 and 6-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference double-header match-up at the Athletic Center to improve to 18-10 overall and 9-3 in the conference.  The Scarlet Raiders fall to 12-20 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
 
Game 1:  It took just one run for the Roadrunners to take the game from Rutgers Newark, 1-0 as Erin Fitzsimmons held Rutgers Newark to no runs in the complete game on five hits earning the win.  She improves to 10-7 overall as she struck out five in the game. 
 
Krista Verrino would score the lone run for Ramapo in the 6th inning as she crossed the plate on a single to second from Kendra Decker.  It was enough to take the game for Ramapo as Jackie Lara took the loss for Rutgers Newark.  She struck out five and walked one in the complete game.  She falls to 5-5 overall on the year.
 
Decker hit 1-3 and Jackie Howarth went 1-4 while Harper Patsko and Olivia Mahon hit 1-2 and 1-3 respectively. 
 
Game 2: Carli Egan was on fire in game two as was the pitching staff who pitched a combined no hitter.  Offensively Egan led the Roadrunners hitting 3-4 with two runs and two RBI. 
 
Jessica Becchetti started the game on the mound pitching three innings.  She struck out none and walked three while letting up no hits.  Fitzsimmons came in to pitch the final four as she went perfect in four innings.  She let up no hits and walked none while striking out two.  She gets the win to improve to 11-7 on the year. 
 
Howarth went 2-4 with two runs and Verrino hit 2-4 with one run and one RBI while Sarah Browning collected two hits on four at bats with two RBI in the win.   Patsko hit 2-4 also as she scored one and drove in one. 
 
Ramapo's four runs in the first inning were enough to take the game as Howarth doubled to lead off and Egan singled later in the inning to bring home Howarth.  Patsko would rip a double scoring Verrino and Browning singled to right center driving home Patsko and Egan.  Ramapo tacked on one in the 2nd and the final run in the 4th to take the game, 6-0. 
 
Michelle Capizzano gets the loss in one inning letting up four hits and four runs, striking out one and walking one.  She falls to 2-8 on the year. 
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 20th when they travel to Stockton for a 1pm NJAC match-up.
