BASEBALL SWEEPS STOCKTON IN NJAC ACTION

Union, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC conference double header from Stockton University, 4-0 in game one and 12-4 in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 16-10 overall and 7-3 in the conference while the Ospreys move to 13-11 overall and 3-7 in the NJAC.
 
Game One
Ramapo scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Matt Meola laced a triple into the right-center field gap before Bryan Franko drove him home with an RBI single, 1-0. Kyle Buser and Philip Mahlik each worked bases loaded walks to push across two more runs, 3-0. In the sixth inning, Meola led off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error before moving to third on a wild pitch. Justin Grippo poked a single to right field plating Meola with the fourth run, 4-0.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Kevin Stewart (4-0) struck out six in six complete innings of work while he scattered three hits. Jeff Millet closed out the game and earned the three-inning save with three strikeouts while he let up just two hits.
 
Game Two
Ramapo pounded out 18 hits in game two while they broke open the game in the eighth inning scoring five runs, 12-4.
 
Stockton took a 1-0 lead before Ramapo came back with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning for a 2-1 lead. Mahlik led off with a double before Anthony Kuzmenko singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Liam Duffy drove home Mahlik to tie the game before Kuzmenko later scored on an infield error. Stockton tied the game 2-2 with a run in the third before Ramapo added a run in the bottom half of the inning. Kuzmenko led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch for a 3-2 lead.
 
In the fourth, the Ospreys scored an unearned run to once again tie the game 3-3 before Ramapo scored to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs Mahlik singled up the middle before Kuzmenko drove him home with a double to center field. Stockton recorded one run in the fifth to tie the game 4-4 before Franko singled with two outs in the bottom half of the inning.  Kellen Hardy then drove a two-run home run over the left field fence as Ramapo took the lead for good, 6-4. In the seventh inning, Vincent Timpanelli drove the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to extend the score, 7-4.
 
In the eighth, Ramapo recorded sixth straight hits including RBI singles from Liam Duffy and Timpanelli before Kyle Buser recorded a two RBI triple down the right field line. Franko then singled home the final run of the inning for the 12-4 lead. Ramapo held the Ospreys in the ninth to earn the NJAC sweep.
 
Kyle Haag (3-2) earned the win in relief as he struck out four, walked none and let up just one hit in three innings of work. Ramapo starting pitcher Nick Recarte earned a no decision with eight strikeouts and five walks. In four innings of work he surrendered four runs and four hits. Riley Weis worked the seventh with two strikeouts and did not give up a hit while Matt Stewart closed out the game in the ninth with two strikeouts and let up just one hit.
 
Kuzmenko finished 4-5 in game two with three runs scored and one RBI while Buser and Mahlik each collected three hits while Mahlik recorded three runs scored. Duffy, Timpanelli and Franko each tallied two hits.
 
Ramapo will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host New Jersey City University at Jeff Maund Field in a NJAC conference game at 3:30pm.
