Union, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Kean University today on the road 4-2 in NJAC conference action. The Roadrunners improve to 14-10 overall, 5-3 in the NJAC while the Cougars now stand at 18-11 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Ramapo scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead before Kean came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Nick Cuba led off with a single before
Anthony Kuzmenko was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base.
Liam Duffy put down a sac bunt to move them up one base before
Vincent Timpanelli took the first pitch he saw and laced into left field as both runners came around to score for the lead.
Kean got both runs back in the bottom half of the inning on when Zachary Marzano pick up a two RBI single of his own, 2-2. The Roadrunners scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth.
Philip Mahlik drove home Kuzmenko from third base with a sac fly to center field for a 3-2 lead. Kuzmenko drew a leadoff walk on four pitches. In the top of the ninth Ramapo added an insurance run when
Vincenzo Sita led off with a single moved to second on a sac bunt from pinch hitter
Justin Grippo and later scored on
Kellen Hardy's pinch hit double, 4-2.
Greg Westhelle, who entered the game in the bottom of the eighth, closed the door on the Cougars in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered just two hits in two innings of work.
CJ Growney (2-3) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo, he struck out five, walked two and scattered seven hits in seven complete innings of work. Five different Roadrunners recorded hits in the game while Timpanelli led the way with two RBI.
Ramapo will return to action tomorrow when they host NJAC rival Stockton University in a double header starting at 12.
